What is the Kwansei Gakuin Mathematics and Science Club which makes this study materials?
Our main activity is the research on math and IT. We have published over thirty peer-reviewed papers in eight countries, namely, America, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Italy, the U.K., Serbia. including some papers in undergraduate journals. We have presented our research at international conferences nineteen times in eight countries.
Perhaps you are a group of specially talented students.
We are not special elites for mathematics research. No one in our club passed top-notch university's entrance examination without making a lot of effort. Some of our member leave the club to prepare for the entrance examination of universities. Some continue doing research at our club, and fail at the exam. Those people take entrance exam next year. None of us participated in contests for choosing a team for International Mathematical Olympiad, because we can't solve the problem of math Olympiad. However, we could have a lot of achievements.
Why have we accomplished so much achievements ?
We have a very effective method of our research, and we are going to present it in this web site. We will show you how to make a new idea, and this can be a method to create new things in any field other than mathematics. We use mathematical games as examples, so many people can enjoy them, even if they do not like math in textbooks. As for the results of the research, please see the research results of ours.
How do we study ?
In summary, our method of research is as the followings.
1. First, we look for some problem that will be interesting for high school students. Some books for high school students written by well known mathematicians are usually good. For some good books, please move to this link.
2. Usually, students are supposed to solve problems given to them, but we change some parts of the problem instead of solving it. Let me explain about our method of changing problems. In shorts, we change numbers or rules of the problem given to us to make a variant of the original problem.
3. Then, we study the variant using mathematics software.
4. We study the result of calculation by mathematics software.
5. If we find some interesting fact, we prove it.
6. If we prove it, we submit it to a contest. If the result is good, we submit it to a conference for mathematicians or some journal for mathematicians.
This is our way of discovering new things in mathematics, but we can use this method for fields other than mathematics.
What is the creativity?
Most people think that creativity is very special thing to can be given to a special person, but there have been a lot of new ideas that have been born from old ideas. For example, the well known "West side Story" was a 20th century version of "Romeo and Juliet" , and many films by the great master Kurosawa were Japanese version of Shakespeare's stories. Some people say that most of so-called new ideas are good variant of old ideas.
In mathematics and other fields, most people never change things, and use the old idea as it is. If you are willing to change some parts of the old idea, you can created new things.
